First home meet follow up and upcoming events
Parents,
Congratulations to all of the Sharks on a great win last night! Not only was it a great win, but it was a well run meet with no missed events! We have received many compliments from Ooltewah about how smoothly the meet ran...even with the storm delays. THANK YOU to each of you volunteers that helped make our first home meet a success!
Monday night we will travel to the Dalton Pool located at 904 Civic Dr. Dalton, GA 30721. They are always a tough team, so we need as many swimmers as possible to make the trip! Please remember to mark your RSVP especially if you will not be attending. Also, because of the travel associated with the Dalton meet, there will not be practice offered on Tuesday morning. It is important for the kids to have some recovery time after a late night.
Please check your volunteer positions. Just after registration, many of the volunteer positions were wiped out due to a glitch in the software. We are desperate for volunteers for Monday's meet. We need 3 deck parents, 4 timers and all place judge positions filled. Swimming is a volunteer sport, and we need volunteers in place for the meets to run for our kiddos. To volunteer, go to the website, log in (using your email address and the password "welcome" unless you have changed your password), click swim meets in the red heading, select the appropriate meet, and click on the "V" next to that meet, fill in your position.
If you are looking for a fun family outing, join us for Shark Cafe tonight! It is an open pool night for anyone on the swim team and their family. Food is offered at $5.00 per plate beginning at 6 p.m. until the food runs out. This is a great time for everyone to socialize and get to know one another...and relax!
Lastly, we have paired up our Sharks and Minnows. What is Sharks and Minnows? Sharks and Minnows is a mentoring program. We pair our "Sharks", also known as the 11 and over swimmers (a few 10s almost 11s who have swam for multiple years), with our "Minnows", those kids that are 10 and under. Occasionally, there will be a new 11/12 year old that might get paired with a more experienced swimmer. This gives the opportunity for the minnows to learn from the sharks and grow in their love for the sport of swimming. We don't give gifts, maybe a popcicle or sucker at the end of the meet, but no more. It's just about showing support for one another and growing as a team. Signs are a great way to express support! Cheering for each other is another great way to show support! Having a shark help their minnow figure out their events, etc. is another great way to show support! In case your child doesn't know who they have been paired with, you will find an attachment of the 2017 Sharks and Minnows list to this email. It is also posted in the glass case between the restrooms at the pool. Maybe your child doesn't know who their shark or minnow is...just ask. We will introduce them!
Can't wait to see the shark swarm on Monday in Dalton!
